Timeline:
July 2025 – January 2026

Project Overview
Next year the grain terminal plans to install 2 new marine towers to load and unload
the ships of grain and seed coming from overseas.

To accommodate the new marine
towers and renew the plant, Vanguard is involved in the mechanical works to
upgrade the gantries, walkway and handling equipment on the jetty.

Scope of works

  • Strengthen existing towers to allow for the additional weight of the new gantries and equipment.
  • Erect new stairways and steelwork to allow for better access onto the towers.
  • Install new gantries and walkway across the length of the jetty.
  • Install and commission new 1000 t/h Guttridge chain conveyor across the
length of the gantries, along with associated chutes.

Challenges

As the site is live, one of our main challenges has been working around port
operations, allowing them to continue moving the marine towers and unloading
ships. This has limited our movements and the availability for us to carry out hot
works on the jetty. Another challenge has been moving the roughly 23 meter gantries
into position from the nearby lay-down area.

Outcome

On completion, this project will allow the port to renew and upgrade the marine
towers to allow for continued operation over the coming decades.
