Project Overview
To upgrade a number of ageing conveyors for a Maltings customer in Scotland.
Scope of works
Design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of:
– 2 off 110-meter-long chain conveyors handling 150 t/h of Barley
– 2 off 14-meter-long chain conveyors handling 75 t/h of Barley
– 2 off 10-meter-long chain conveyors handling 2 t/h of dust
– 1 off 51-meter-long screw conveyor handling 75 t/h of malt
– 1 off 9-meter-long screw conveyor handling 75 t/h of malt
– 1 off 24-meter-long chain conveyor handling 75 t/h of Barley
Challenges
The main challenge on this project was that when it was first planned, the plant
would have been shut down for the duration of the works. As it turned out, the plant
had to stay operational, which gave us very limited windows of opportunity to carry
out the necessary works.
To add to the challenge, the longest machines were all on
top of silos or gantries, which in itself created problems for the timings of the crane.
Outcome
With renewed equipment, the customer can now continue to operate these machines
at full capacity for several decades to come
